I grew up in northern New Jersey and was always a bit of a math nerd. I attended Barnard College at Columbia University for undergraduate school, studying mathematics, statistics, and chemistry. After graduating with my B.A., I went to graduate school at Rutgers University for Civil and Environmental Engineering. After changing careers in 2017, I received my teaching credentials in New Jersey. For the past two years I have been pursuing a M.Ed. in Educational Leadership & Policy from the Lynch School of Education of Boston College as well as a Graduate Certificate.
I have taught in both public and private schools in New Jersey and tutored at private tutoring centers. I have been working with virtual learning since before the pandemic and believe it has the possibility to extend access to quality education to those who otherwise don't have it locally available. I also strongly believe that the best education we can provide to students is individualized instruction catered to a student's strengths and areas for improvement in a way that actively engages the student in their own learning.
I moved to the Bay Area in California in 2022. When I happen to find free time, I shower my cats with affection, even when they don't ask for it. I also enjoy camping and going to music festivals with my friends. In another life I might have been a film critic, and I have watched 235 movies (out of 306) on my personal Ultimate Movie List.
I believe education should always be centered around the student and educational institutions should serve as an extension of society's responsibility to ensure students become competent capable contributing members of society. I also strongly believe that the best education we can provide to students is individualized instruction catered to a student's strengths and areas for improvement in a way that actively engages the student in their own learning. I believe virtual instruction has the possibility to extend access to quality education to those who otherwise don't have it locally available. I believe an effective educational leader navigates the interconnected complex educational system by balancing political and bureaucratic structures and policies, the mission and values of their institution, and the real-time needs of its student population, families, and community.
